Thomas Jefferson
Born April 13, 1743
Third U.S. president and main author of the Declaration of Independence who made the Louisiana Purchase.
Thomas Jefferson was an American Founding Father and the third president of the United States, serving from 1801 to 1809. Born at Shadwell in Virginia, he attended the College of William and Mary and studied law under George Wythe. In 1776 he was the primary author of the Declaration of Independence. He later served as governor of Virginia, U.S. minister to France, secretary of state under George Washington, and vice president. As president, he oversaw the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, which doubled the size of the country, and backed the Lewis and Clark Expedition. He wrote the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, designed his home, Monticello, and founded the University of Virginia.

Al Green
Born April 13, 1946
American soul singer famous for Let's Stay Together who later became a pastor and gospel artist.
Al Green is an American soul and gospel singer born in Arkansas. As a boy he sang gospel with his family group, the Greene Brothers. Working with producer Willie Mitchell at Hi Records in Memphis from 1968, he developed a smooth, warm style that produced a string of hits, including the chart-topping Let's Stay Together, I'm Still in Love with You, and Love and Happiness. In the 1970s he turned toward his religious faith, became pastor of the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Memphis, and focused on gospel music. He has since moved between sacred and secular songs, reuniting with Mitchell on I Can't Stop. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and received Kennedy Center Honors in 2014.

Garry Kasparov is a chess grandmaster and writer born in Baku, Azerbaijan, then part of the Soviet Union. He started playing at age six and studied under former world champion Mikhail Botvinnik. He was a Soviet youth champion by 13 and became a grandmaster at 17. In 1985, at age 22, he defeated Anatoly Karpov to become the youngest official world chess champion, a title he kept until 2000. He drew global attention in his matches against IBM's computer Deep Blue, winning in 1996 and losing the 1997 rematch. After retiring from competitive chess in 2005, he wrote books including the My Great Predecessors series and Deep Thinking, and became an active political opponent of Vladimir Putin.
