Loretta Lynn
Born April 14, 1932
American country music star known for Coal Miner's Daughter and her frank songs about women's lives.
Loretta Lynn was an American country singer and songwriter from Butcher Hollow, Kentucky, the daughter of a coal miner. Her first single, I'm a Honky Tonk Girl, came out in 1960, the same year she first sang on the Grand Ole Opry. She wrote bold, often funny songs from a woman's point of view, with hits such as You Ain't Woman Enough, Fist City, and Coal Miner's Daughter. Her duets with Conway Twitty, including After the Fire Is Gone, were hugely popular. In 1972 she became the first woman named CMA Entertainer of the Year. Her 1976 autobiography became a hit film in 1980. She joined the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1988 and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013.
