American singer and pianist known for "Killing Me Softly with His Song" and "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face."
Roberta Flack was an American singer and pianist whose soft, expressive voice made her one of the leading soul and pop stars of the 1970s. Raised in Arlington, Virginia, she won a music scholarship to Howard University at just 15 and later worked as a schoolteacher while performing in Washington, D.C., clubs. Jazz musician Les McCann helped her get a contract with Atlantic Records. Her songs "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and "Killing Me Softly with His Song" both topped the charts and each won the Grammy for Record of the Year. She also recorded popular duets with Donny Hathaway and Peabo Bryson, and she received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020.

American swimmer who won seven gold medals, each in world-record time, at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
Mark Spitz is an American swimmer from Modesto, California, who became one of the most famous athletes of the 1970s. He showed talent early, setting many national age-group records as a child, and won five gold medals at the 1967 Pan American Games. At the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City he earned two relay golds plus a silver and a bronze. While swimming for Indiana University, he kept improving, and at the 1972 Olympics in Munich he won seven gold medals, setting a world record in every one of those events. He was the first athlete to win seven golds at a single Olympics. Afterward he finished his degree and worked as a sports commentator, an actor, and in real estate.

Laura Dern is an American actress from Los Angeles and the daughter of actors Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd. She began acting as a teenager and drew attention in films such as Mask and Smooth Talk. Her film work grew to include Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, and Inland Empire, and she reached a huge audience with the blockbuster Jurassic Park. Dern earned Oscar nominations for Rambling Rose and Wild, then won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Marriage Story. On television, she starred in Enlightened and Big Little Lies, winning an Emmy for the latter. Her other films include October Sky and Little Women.
