American singer-songwriter whose album Tapestry and songs like "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" became pop classics.
Carole King is an American songwriter and singer born Carol Joan Klein in New York City. As a teenager she started writing songs at the Brill Building, and with her songwriting partner and first husband, Gerry Goffin, she created hits such as "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," "The Loco-Motion," "Up on the Roof," and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman." Her 1971 album Tapestry won four Grammy Awards and spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard chart. In 2013 she became the first woman to receive the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Her life story is told in the Broadway musical Beautiful, and she received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2015.

Alice Walker is an American writer and activist from Eatonton, Georgia, the youngest of eight children in a sharecropping family. She studied at Spelman College and Sarah Lawrence College and took part in the civil rights movement, including helping register Black voters in Georgia. She published poetry, short stories, essays, and novels such as The Third Life of Grange Copeland and Meridian. Her 1982 novel The Color Purple won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, making her the first African American woman to win the Pulitzer for fiction. The book became a 1985 film directed by Steven Spielberg and later a Broadway musical. She also helped renew interest in the writer Zora Neale Hurston.

Joe Pesci is an American actor from Newark, New Jersey. He began performing as a young child and appeared on the TV variety show Star Time Kids. In the 1960s he worked as a nightclub singer and played guitar with Joey Dee and the Starliters. After Robert De Niro saw him in a small film, he recommended Pesci to director Martin Scorsese, who cast him in Raging Bull in 1980. Pesci went on to win the Academy Award for best supporting actor for Goodfellas. He is also widely known for comedies such as Home Alone and My Cousin Vinny, and for Lethal Weapon 2, Casino, and The Irishman, which brought him another Oscar nomination.
