What happened in the 1940s?
In the 1940s (1940–1949), Germany invaded the Soviet Union and Japan decided on war with the United States and Britain; atomic bombs were later dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and Japan decided to accept the Potsdam Declaration. After the war, the United Nations was founded, followed by Japan's postwar constitution, the independence of India and Pakistan, and the People's Republic of China.
