Bruce Springsteen is an American singer-songwriter from Freehold, New Jersey. Inspired after seeing Elvis Presley on television as a boy, he played in bar bands along the Jersey Shore and later formed the E Street Band. His 1975 album Born to Run made him a national star and put him on the covers of Time and Newsweek. Born in the U.S.A. (1984) was even more successful. His songs often tell stories about ordinary working people, and his long, high-energy concerts earned him a devoted following and the nickname "the Boss." His honors include Grammy Awards, an Academy Award for Streets of Philadelphia, a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Kennedy Center Honors.

Ray Charles was an American singer, pianist, composer, and bandleader from Albany, Georgia. Raised in poverty, he soaked up gospel, blues, jazz, and country music as a child and became a professional musician at 15. By mixing gospel feeling with blues and jazz, he helped create the sound later called soul music, earning the nickname "the Genius." His well-known recordings include I've Got a Woman, What'd I Say, Georgia on My Mind, Hit the Road Jack, I Can't Stop Loving You, and America the Beautiful. Georgia made Georgia on My Mind its state song in 1979. He won many Grammy Awards and in 1986 received Kennedy Center Honors and entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Mickey Rooney

American actor and child star famous for the Andy Hardy films and musicals with Judy Garland.
Mickey Rooney was an American actor born Joseph Yule Jr. in Brooklyn, New York. He first performed on stage as a toddler and made his movie debut at age 6. In the late 1930s and early 1940s he became one of America's biggest stars as the cheerful teenager Andy Hardy in a long series of films. MGM also teamed him with Judy Garland in popular musicals such as Strike Up the Band, and he appeared in Boys Town and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Over a career of more than 80 years he acted in over 200 films. He made his Broadway debut in Sugar Babies and received an Academy Award for lifetime achievement in 1983.
