James Joyce
Born February 2, 1882
Irish novelist whose experimental books Ulysses and Finnegans Wake reshaped modern fiction.
James Joyce was an Irish writer born in Dublin who became a major figure of modernist literature. Educated at a Jesuit school and at University College, Dublin, he left Ireland in 1904 with Nora Barnacle, whom he later married. The couple lived in Pola, Trieste, Zurich, and Paris. Joyce's short story collection Dubliners appeared in 1914, followed by the semi-autobiographical novel A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man in 1916. His masterpiece, Ulysses (1922), was at first banned for a time in the United States and Britain. His last book, Finnegans Wake (1939), took about 17 years to write. Joyce was known for inventive language and stream-of-consciousness storytelling.

Born February 2, 1947
American actress who became a 1970s pop-culture icon on Charlie's Angels and later earned acclaim in dramatic roles.
Farrah Fawcett was an American actress from Corpus Christi, Texas, who attended the University of Texas at Austin. She became a sensation in 1976 playing private investigator Jill Monroe on the hit TV series Charlie's Angels, alongside Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith. Although she left after one season, a poster of her in a red swimsuit sold millions of copies, and her feathered hairstyle was so popular that it inspired a shampoo line. Fawcett then worked to be taken seriously as a dramatic actress. She starred on stage in Extremities and earned Emmy nominations for the TV films The Burning Bed (1984) and Small Sacrifices (1989) and for The Guardian. She also appeared in the feature film The Apostle with Robert Duvall.
