What were the key events of the 19th century?
In the 19th century (1801–1900), Latin American nations won independence, Qing China lost the Opium War, and European powers colonized much of Africa and Asia. In Japan, after Commodore Perry's arrival, the Restoration of Imperial Rule was proclaimed and the Constitution of the Empire of Japan was promulgated.
