Galileo Galilei
Born February 15, 1564
Italian scientist whose telescope discoveries and studies of motion helped launch modern astronomy and physics.
Galileo Galilei was born in Pisa, Italy, the son of the musician and music theorist Vincenzio Galilei. He studied at the University of Pisa and later taught mathematics there and at the University of Padua. In 1609, after hearing about the new telescope, he built his own and greatly improved it. Turning it to the sky, he saw mountains on the Moon, countless stars in the Milky Way, and four moons circling Jupiter, and he also observed the phases of Venus and sunspots. He reported his first findings in Sidereus Nuncius in 1610. Galileo supported the Copernican idea that Earth moves around the Sun, and his work on falling bodies and motion helped lay the foundations of modern physics.

Susan B. Anthony
Born February 15, 1820
American reformer and leader of the women's suffrage movement whose name became linked to the Nineteenth Amendment.
Susan B. Anthony was born in Adams, Massachusetts, and raised in a Quaker family. She worked as a teacher, and the low pay given to women teachers helped shape her views on equal rights. After her family settled near Rochester, New York, she joined the fight against slavery and the temperance cause. In 1851 she met Elizabeth Cady Stanton, beginning a partnership that lasted for decades. Together they published the newspaper The Revolution and in 1869 founded the National Woman Suffrage Association to seek a federal amendment giving women the vote. Anthony later led the National American Woman Suffrage Association from 1892 to 1900. The Nineteenth Amendment, ratified in 1920, is often called the Susan B. Anthony Amendment.

Matt Groening
Born February 15, 1954
American cartoonist who created the animated TV series The Simpsons and Futurama.
Matt Groening is an American cartoonist and animator from Portland, Oregon. After graduating from Evergreen State College in Washington, he moved to Los Angeles, where his comic strip Life in Hell began in 1980 and soon ran in alternative newspapers across the country. In 1987 producer James L. Brooks asked him to create short cartoons for The Tracey Ullman Show, and Groening came up with the Simpson family: Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. The Simpsons became a half-hour series in late 1989, won Emmy Awards, and in 2009 became the longest-running prime-time series in American TV history. Groening also created the science fiction comedy Futurama, which debuted in 1999, and the Netflix fantasy series Disenchantment.
