Jack Benny
Born February 14, 1894
American comedian whose long-running radio and television shows made him a master of comic timing.
Jack Benny was born Benjamin Kubelsky in Chicago and grew up in nearby Waukegan, Illinois. He studied the violin as a boy and entered vaudeville in 1912, later turning his violin into a comic prop that he played badly on purpose. After a guest spot on Ed Sullivan's radio program in 1932, he soon had his own show, and The Jack Benny Program stayed on network radio for more than two decades. On air he played an exaggerated version of himself: vain, cheap, and forever claiming to be 39. A strong supporting cast, including his wife Mary Livingstone and Eddie Anderson as Rochester, helped make the show a hit. Benny also appeared in films and moved successfully to television.

Born February 14, 1942
American businessman who founded the financial data company Bloomberg L.P. and served three terms as mayor of New York City.
Michael Bloomberg is an American entrepreneur, politician, and philanthropist from Massachusetts. He earned degrees from Johns Hopkins University and Harvard Business School, then built a career at the investment bank Salomon Brothers, where he became a partner. In 1982 he started his own company, now Bloomberg L.P., whose computer terminal changed the way traders get financial news and data. He was elected mayor of New York City in 2001 and served three terms, from 2002 through 2013. Bloomberg has given large sums to education, public health, medical research, and efforts against climate change, including major gifts to Johns Hopkins. In 2020 he briefly sought the Democratic nomination for president before backing Joe Biden.

Born February 14, 1819
American printer and inventor known as the father of the typewriter and creator of the QWERTY keyboard layout.
Christopher Latham Sholes was born near Mooresburg, Pennsylvania, and trained as a printer. He moved to Wisconsin as a young man, where he worked on and edited several newspapers and served in the state legislature. In 1867, working in a Milwaukee machine shop with partners Carlos Glidden and Samuel Soule, he began building a machine that could print letters on paper. The group received patents in 1868, and backer James Densmore pushed Sholes to keep improving the design. In 1873 the rights went to E. Remington and Sons, which mass-produced it as the Remington typewriter. Sholes arranged the keys in the QWERTY pattern to help prevent jams, and that layout is still used on keyboards today.
