John McEnroe is an American tennis player who rose to the top of the sport in the late 1970s and 1980s. Born in Wiesbaden, West Germany, he played a year at Stanford University and won the U.S. college title before turning pro. He captured the U.S. Open singles crown four times and Wimbledon three times, and he also won many doubles titles, often teaming with Peter Fleming. Fans knew him for his sharp volleying and his fiery on-court temper. He helped the United States win the Davis Cup five times. After leaving the pro tour in 1992, he became a television tennis analyst, and he joined the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1999.

LeVar Burton is an American actor, author, and educator who has spent much of his career encouraging children to read. He first gained wide notice playing the young Kunta Kinte in the 1977 TV miniseries Roots, a role that brought him an Emmy nomination. From 1983 to 2006 he hosted and helped produce the PBS show Reading Rainbow, which introduced generations of kids to books and won many honors, including a Peabody Award. He also played the engineer Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Burton has written several books, including the memoir Take My Word for It and the children's book The Rhino Who Swallowed a Storm.
