Richard Pryor was an American comedian, actor, and writer from Peoria, Illinois. He started out in nightclubs in the early 1960s and became one of the leading comics of the 1970s and 1980s. His stand-up drew on struggling city characters and was told with raw, unflinching honesty. He won several Grammy Awards for his comedy albums. Pryor also earned an Emmy for writing a Lily Tomlin special and helped write the screenplay for Blazing Saddles. On screen he starred in movies including Silver Streak, Stir Crazy, and the concert film Live on the Sunset Strip. In 1998 he became the first person to receive the Kennedy Center's Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

Bette Midler is an American singer, actress, and entertainer from Honolulu, Hawaii. After appearing on Broadway in Fiddler on the Roof, she built a popular nightclub act as "The Divine Miss M," with Barry Manilow at the piano. Her first album, The Divine Miss M (1972), went platinum and won her the Grammy for Best New Artist. She earned an Academy Award nomination for The Rose (1979) and later starred in Beaches, Hocus Pocus, and The First Wives Club. Her ballad "Wind Beneath My Wings" from Beaches became a Grammy winner. In 2017 she won a Tony Award for playing Dolly in a Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly! She also founded the New York Restoration Project.

Lee Trevino is an American professional golfer from the Dallas, Texas, area. Raised by a working family of Mexican American heritage, he learned the game largely on his own while working as a caddie and groundskeeper at a Dallas driving range. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps before turning pro. Known as "Super Mex," he won six major titles: the U.S. Open in 1968 and 1971, the British Open in 1971 and 1972, and the PGA Championship in 1974 and 1984. In 1971 he became the first golfer to win the U.S., British, and Canadian opens in the same year. He also captained the 1985 U.S. Ryder Cup team and entered the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1981.
