Louisa May Alcott
Born November 29, 1832
American novelist best known for Little Women, the beloved story of the four March sisters.
Louisa May Alcott was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, and was taught at home by her father, the educator Bronson Alcott. Her family settled in Concord, Massachusetts, where she grew up around writers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau, who was one of her teachers. To help support her family, she worked as a teacher and servant, and during the Civil War she served as a nurse in Washington, D.C., which led to her book Hospital Sketches (1863). She also wrote stories under pen names. Little Women (1868), drawn from her own family life and set at Orchard House in Concord, brought her lasting fame and independence. Little Men, Eight Cousins, and Jo's Boys followed.

In 1954 he moved to Cambridge as a professor of medieval and Renaissance English. With J.R.R. Tolkien and others, he belonged to the Inklings, an informal group of writers, and returned to the Christian faith. Lewis wrote about 40 books, including The Screwtape Letters, Mere Christianity, and a science fiction Space Trilogy. He is best loved for The Chronicles of Narnia, seven children's fantasy books that began with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 1950.

Mariano Rivera
Born November 29, 1969
Panamanian baseball pitcher and longtime New York Yankees closer who holds the major league record for career saves.
Mariano Rivera was born in Panama City, Panama, and grew up in the fishing village of Puerto Caimito, where his father captained a fishing boat. He signed with the New York Yankees in 1990 and reached the major leagues in 1995. Using a sharp cut fastball that he developed in 1997, he became a star relief pitcher and closer. Over 19 seasons, all with the Yankees, he set the all-time record with 652 regular-season saves, made 13 All-Star teams, and helped win five World Series titles, earning World Series MVP in 1999. He was the last player to wear number 42 regularly. In 2019 he became the first player elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame unanimously.
