Truman Capote
Born September 30, 1924
American novelist and short-story writer best known for Breakfast at Tiffany's and the pioneering nonfiction novel In Cold Blood.
Truman Capote was an American novelist, short-story writer, and playwright from New Orleans. His early fiction grew out of the Southern Gothic tradition, and his partly autobiographical first novel, Other Voices, Other Rooms (1948), turned him into a celebrity. In 1958 he published the novella Breakfast at Tiffany's, centered on the free-spirited Holly Golightly, which later became a popular 1961 film. He then moved toward a journalistic style with In Cold Blood, which first ran in The New Yorker in 1965 and appeared as a book in 1966. Capote called it a "nonfiction novel." His childhood friend Harper Lee helped him research it, and he is thought to have inspired the character Dill in To Kill a Mockingbird.

Johnny Mathis
Born September 30, 1935
American pop singer famed for romantic ballads such as "Chances Are" and "Misty" and his beloved Christmas recordings.
Johnny Mathis is an American singer born in Gilmer, Texas, the fourth of seven children. At San Francisco State he was a talented high jumper, but in 1956 he chose music over a chance at the Olympic trials. After an audition at a San Francisco nightclub, he signed with Columbia Records. His label soon steered him toward romantic ballads, and hits like "Wonderful, Wonderful," "It's Not for Me to Say," and "Chances Are," his first No. 1 in 1957, followed. His greatest hits album stayed on the Billboard albums chart for 490 straight weeks. He has recorded more than 80 albums, including six Christmas albums, and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003.
