Alfred Hitchcock
Born August 13, 1899
English-born film director known as the Master of Suspense, famous for Psycho, Rear Window, Vertigo and The Birds.
Alfred Hitchcock was a London-born filmmaker whose suspense thrillers earned him the nickname Master of Suspense. He started out making British films in the late 1920s, including The Lodger, Blackmail, The 39 Steps and The Lady Vanishes. In 1939 he moved to Hollywood, where Rebecca (1940) won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Classics such as Rear Window, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Psycho and The Birds followed. Audiences loved spotting his brief cameo appearances in his own movies, and his TV series Alfred Hitchcock Presents ran from 1955 to 1965. He received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1968, the AFI Life Achievement Award in 1979, and a knighthood.

Annie Oakley
Born August 13, 1860
American sharpshooter nicknamed Little Sure Shot who starred for years in Buffalo Bill's Wild West show.
Annie Oakley, born Phoebe Ann Moses in Darke County, Ohio, became a world-famous markswoman. As a young girl she hunted game and sold it to help support her family. At about 15 she beat the marksman Frank Butler in a shooting match, and the two married in 1876 and later performed together. In 1884 the Native American leader Sitting Bull, impressed by her skill, gave her the nickname Little Sure Shot. Starting in 1885 she spent more than 15 years as a headline act in Buffalo Bill's Wild West show, splitting playing cards and hitting glass balls in midair. She performed across Europe, including for Queen Victoria, and later inspired the 1946 musical Annie Get Your Gun.
