Born July 5, 1958
American cartoonist who created Calvin and Hobbes, the beloved comic strip about a boy and his stuffed tiger.
Bill Watterson is an American cartoonist best known for the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes. Born in Washington, D.C., he grew up in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and graduated from Kenyon College in 1980. After a short job drawing political cartoons for the Cincinnati Post, he spent years trying to sell a comic strip. Calvin and Hobbes debuted in November 1985 and followed a lively six-year-old boy and his stuffed tiger, who comes to life in Calvin's imagination. The strip ran in hundreds of newspapers and won the Reuben Award from the National Cartoonists Society. Watterson ended it on December 31, 1995, and refused to license his characters for products. In 2023 he released The Mysteries with artist John Kascht.
