Gerald Ford
Born July 14, 1913
38th president of the United States, the only person to hold the office without being elected president or vice president.
Gerald Ford was born Leslie Lynch King Jr. in Omaha, Nebraska, and later took the name Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr. He was a standout football player at the University of Michigan, earned a law degree from Yale, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Michigan voters sent him to the House of Representatives in 1948, and he stayed for about 25 years, rising to Republican minority leader. In 1973 he was appointed vice president under the Twenty-fifth Amendment, and on August 9, 1974, he became the 38th president after Richard Nixon resigned. His term, which lasted until 1977, dealt with economic trouble, energy problems, and the end of the Vietnam War. He lost the 1976 election to Jimmy Carter.

Woody Guthrie
Born July 14, 1912
American folk singer and songwriter best known for "This Land Is Your Land" and his songs about Depression-era America.
Woody Guthrie was born in Okemah, Oklahoma, and became a towering figure in American folk music. During the Great Depression he joined the many Dust Bowl migrants heading west to California, singing in migrant camps and on Los Angeles radio. Those experiences fed his songs and his 1943 autobiography, Bound for Glory. He later settled in New York City, where he worked with Pete Seeger, Lead Belly, and the Almanac Singers. Guthrie wrote more than 1,000 songs, including "This Land Is Your Land," often called an alternative national anthem, and "Roll On Columbia." His guitar famously carried the slogan "This Machine Kills Fascists." He deeply influenced Bob Dylan and was honored by both the Songwriters and Rock and Roll Halls of Fame.

Gustav Klimt
Born July 14, 1862
Austrian painter and founder of the Vienna Secession, famous for richly decorated works such as The Kiss.
Gustav Klimt was born in Baumgarten, now part of Vienna, Austria, the second of seven children of an engraver. He trained at Vienna's School of Arts and Crafts and in 1883 formed an artists' company with his brother Ernst and Franz Matsch, decorating theaters, museums, and palaces across the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In 1897 he broke with the established art world and became a founding member and first president of the Vienna Secession, a modern art movement. Klimt became known for flat, brightly colored, highly decorative paintings. His major works include the Beethoven Frieze, shown in 1902, and The Kiss, which Austria's state gallery bought in 1908. His painting Philosophy won a gold medal at the 1900 Paris World's Fair.
