John Quincy Adams
Born July 11, 1767
Sixth president of the United States, skilled diplomat, and later an antislavery voice in the House of Representatives.
John Quincy Adams was the son of President John Adams and Abigail Adams, and he grew up in Braintree, Massachusetts. Schooled partly in Europe, he graduated from Harvard and became a diplomat, representing the U.S. in Holland, Prussia, Russia, and Great Britain. He also served as a U.S. senator. As secretary of state under James Monroe, he helped shape the policy later known as the Monroe Doctrine and negotiated the acquisition of Florida. He served as the sixth president from 1825 to 1829 and supported national roads and canals. Afterward he won election to the House, where he served from 1831 to 1848, opposed the spread of slavery, and argued the Amistad case before the Supreme Court.

E. B. White
Born July 11, 1899
American essayist and author of the children's classics Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little, and The Trumpet of the Swan.
Elwyn Brooks White, known to friends as "Andy," was born in Mount Vernon, New York, and graduated from Cornell University in 1921. In 1927 he joined The New Yorker, where he wrote essays and pieces in a clear, personal, and often funny style for the rest of his career. He also wrote a monthly column for Harper's Magazine and the famous essay Here Is New York. Children still love his three novels: Stuart Little, Charlotte's Web, and The Trumpet of the Swan. His 1959 revision of William Strunk Jr.'s The Elements of Style became a standard guide for writers. White received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1963 and a special Pulitzer Prize citation in 1978.

Born July 11, 1934
Italian fashion designer who founded the Giorgio Armani company and popularized relaxed, elegant suits for men and women.
Giorgio Armani was born in Piacenza, Italy. He left medical school and took a job at La Rinascente, a Milan department store, before joining the staff of designer Nino Cerruti. In 1975 he and his business partner Sergio Galeotti started Giorgio Armani S.p.A., launching menswear that year and a women's line in 1976. His softly tailored clothes in neutral colors changed how both men and women dressed for work. Americans took notice when Richard Gere wore his designs in the 1980 film American Gigolo, and his clothes later appeared on Miami Vice. The brand grew to include Emporio Armani, fragrances, and accessories. Armani led his company as chairman and chief designer for the rest of his life.
