Stan Laurel
Born June 16, 1890
English-born comic actor who teamed with Oliver Hardy to form the beloved film comedy duo Laurel and Hardy.
Stan Laurel, born Arthur Stanley Jefferson in Ulverston, England, was a comedian and film actor. He began performing on stage as a teenager and in 1910 joined Fred Karno's comedy troupe, where he served as Charlie Chaplin's understudy. He moved into movies in 1917 and later took the stage name Laurel. Working with producer Hal Roach, he joined forces with Oliver Hardy, and the pair became one of the most popular comedy teams in film history. On screen Laurel played a simple, bumbling character, but off screen he was the main creative mind behind the duo. Their films included The Music Box, which won an Academy Award, Sons of the Desert, and Way Out West. He received an honorary Oscar in 1961.

Barbara McClintock
Born June 16, 1902
American geneticist who discovered "jumping genes" in maize and won the 1983 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
Barbara McClintock was an American scientist born in Hartford, Connecticut. She earned her doctorate in botany at Cornell University, where she studied the genetics and chromosomes of maize, or corn. Working at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, she found that some genetic elements can move from one spot to another on a chromosome and switch traits on or off. These transposable elements became known as "jumping genes." When she published the findings in 1951, many scientists doubted them, but later research in the 1960s showed she was right. She received the National Medal of Science in 1970 and in 1983 became the first woman to win an unshared Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Her ideas helped shape modern research on gene regulation.

American golfer nicknamed "Lefty" who won six major championships, including three Masters titles.
Phil Mickelson is an American professional golfer from San Diego, California. Although he is naturally right-handed, he plays golf left-handed, which earned him the nickname "Lefty." At Arizona State University he won three NCAA individual titles, and in 1990 he became the first left-hander to capture the U.S. Amateur. After turning pro in 1992, he spent years as a top player without a major before breaking through at the 2004 Masters. He went on to win the Masters again in 2006 and 2010, the 2005 PGA Championship, and the 2013 British Open. In 2021, at age 50, he won the PGA Championship to become the oldest major champion ever.
