Georgia O'Keeffe
Born November 15, 1887
American modernist painter famous for large paintings of flowers, bones, and the landscapes of New Mexico.
Georgia O'Keeffe was born near Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. She studied art at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League in New York, and she was strongly influenced by her teacher Arthur Wesley Dow at Columbia. In 1916 the photographer Alfred Stieglitz showed her work at his 291 gallery in New York, and the two married in 1924. She became known for large paintings of natural subjects, especially flowers and bones, as well as views of New York City skyscrapers. Over time her focus shifted to New Mexico, whose landscapes and buildings filled her later work. She lived near Ghost Ranch and later in Abiquiu, and she is remembered as a leading figure of American modern art.

William Herschel
Born November 15, 1738
German-born British astronomer who discovered the planet Uranus and helped found the systematic study of the stars.
William Herschel was born Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel in Hanover, in what is now Germany, and later made his home in England. He is considered a founder of sidereal astronomy, the careful and systematic observation of the stars and the wider heavens. In 1781 he discovered the planet Uranus, a find that earned him the Copley Medal that same year, and he went on to serve as the King's Astronomer. He studied double stars, star clusters, and nebulae, arguing that nebulae are made up of stars, and he developed a theory of how stars change over time. He was knighted in 1816. His son, Sir John Herschel, also became a well-known astronomer.

Ed Asner
Born November 15, 1929
American actor known for his husky voice, his role as newsman Lou Grant, and voicing Carl in Pixar's Up.
Ed Asner was an American actor born in Kansas City, Missouri. He became famous as Lou Grant, the gruff news producer on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, which ran from 1970 to 1977. His deep, husky voice became his trademark, and he was equally at home in comedy and serious drama. He appeared in the landmark television miniseries Roots in 1977, and later generations knew him as the voice of Carl Fredricksen, the main character of the animated film Up (2009). Over his career he collected many Emmy Awards and Golden Globe Awards, most of them during the 1970s.
