Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th president of the United States, serving from 1901 to 1909. He was assistant secretary of the Navy and led the Rough Riders cavalry regiment in the Spanish-American War in 1898. He then became governor of New York and later vice president. Born October 27, 1923
American Pop artist known for large paintings based on comic strips, with bold outlines and dot patterns.
Roy Lichtenstein was an American artist from New York and a leading figure of the Pop art movement. After serving in the military during World War II, he studied at Ohio State University, earned a master's degree, and taught art at several colleges. Around 1960 he painted Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck for his children, which led him to enlarge comic-strip scenes into fine art. His style used thick black outlines, bright primary colors, and dots that imitated the printing method used in comic books. Works such as Whaam! made him famous after his first big show in 1962. Later he also painted still lifes and landscapes built around images of brushstrokes.
