Argentine short-story writer, poet, and essayist whose collection Ficciones became a classic of world literature.
Jorge Luis Borges was an Argentine writer born in Buenos Aires. He grew up speaking both Spanish and English, and as a teenager he moved with his family to Switzerland and studied in Geneva. In Spain he joined the Ultraist literary movement, which he later brought to South America. His first book of poems, Fervor de Buenos Aires, appeared in 1923. Borges became best known for short stories, especially the collections Ficciones (1944) and The Aleph, which are now seen as classics of 20th-century literature. From 1955 to 1973 he directed Argentina's National Library. He also taught at universities including Harvard and received the Cervantes Prize, a leading award for Spanish-language writers.

Hall of Fame Baltimore Orioles shortstop nicknamed the "Iron Man" for playing 2,632 consecutive games.
Cal Ripken Jr. is an American baseball player from Havre de Grace, Maryland, who spent all 21 of his major league seasons, from 1981 to 2001, with the Baltimore Orioles. Playing mainly shortstop and later third base, he was the 1982 American League Rookie of the Year and won AL MVP awards in 1983 and 1991. He also helped Baltimore win the 1983 World Series. Ripken earned the nickname "Iron Man" for his durability: in 1995 he passed Lou Gehrig's record for consecutive games played, and his streak reached 2,632 games. He finished with 3,184 hits and 431 home runs and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.

Dave Chappelle is an American comedian and actor from Washington, D.C. He spent his childhood between Silver Spring, Maryland, and Yellow Springs, Ohio, and began doing stand-up in the Washington area at age 14. He appeared in films such as Robin Hood: Men in Tights, The Nutty Professor, Half Baked, and A Star Is Born. From 2003 to 2006 he starred in the sketch comedy series Chappelle's Show. Since 2017 he has released a string of Netflix stand-up specials, several of which won Grammy Awards for best comedy album. He has also won Emmy Awards, including for hosting Saturday Night Live, and received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2019.
