John Lennon
Born October 9, 1940
English singer and songwriter who co-led the Beatles with Paul McCartney and later wrote the solo classic "Imagine."
John Lennon was a singer and songwriter from Liverpool, England. He was inspired by Elvis Presley's music, and in 1957 he started a group called the Quarrymen, which grew into the Beatles. Working side by side with Paul McCartney, he wrote many of the songs that made the band one of the most influential acts of the 1960s. After the Beatles split, he built a strong solo career with albums such as John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band (1970) and Imagine (1971). He married artist Yoko Ono in 1969, and the two created music and film projects together while speaking out for peace. Lennon was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, in 1988 and 1994.

Born October 9, 1964
Mexican filmmaker known for dark fantasy films like Pan's Labyrinth and the Oscar-winning The Shape of Water.
Guillermo del Toro is a director, writer, and producer from Guadalajara, Mexico. Fascinated by the macabre from an early age, he studied film and started a special-effects company called Necropia in the 1980s. His first feature, Cronos, came out in 1993, and he went on to make Hollywood hits such as Blade II, Hellboy, and Pacific Rim. Pan's Labyrinth (2006) earned him worldwide attention, and The Shape of Water (2017) won four Academy Awards, including best picture and best director. His movies are known for striking creature designs, a preference for practical effects, and stories that mix fantasy with real emotion. Along with Alfonso Cuaron and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, he is one of the "Three Amigos" of Mexican cinema.

Born October 9, 1873
American pharmacist who founded the Walgreens drugstore chain and is often called the father of the modern drugstore.
Charles R. Walgreen was an American pharmacist and businessman. Born near Galesburg, Illinois, to Swedish immigrant parents, he moved to Chicago at 19 and worked in several drugstores before passing the state pharmacy exam in 1897. In the early 1900s he bought his first small Chicago drugstore, and he later organized the business as the Walgreen Company. He helped change what a drugstore could be by adding store-brand products, homemade ice cream, and soda fountains and lunch counters that served soups and sandwiches. The company went public in 1927, and by 1929 it ran nearly 400 stores. Walgreen also gave back through philanthropy, including a foundation he set up at the University of Chicago in 1937.
