Steve Jobs
Born February 24, 1955
American entrepreneur who cofounded Apple and led the creation of the Macintosh, iPod, iPhone, and iPad.
Steve Jobs was born in San Francisco and cofounded Apple with Stephen Wozniak in 1976, building the first Apple computer in his family's garage. The Apple II helped launch the personal computer boom, and the Macintosh, introduced in 1984, became one of the company's biggest successes. After leaving Apple in 1985, he started NeXT, which made workstation computers and software. He also took control of Pixar, the studio behind Toy Story, the first feature film made entirely with computer animation. Jobs returned to Apple in 1997 and guided its comeback with products such as the iMac, iPod, iTunes, iPhone, and iPad. Under his leadership, Apple at one point became the most valuable company in the world.

Winslow Homer
Born February 24, 1836
American painter and illustrator celebrated for his Civil War scenes and dramatic seascapes of the Maine coast.
Winslow Homer was born in Boston and grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He trained with a Boston lithographer and then moved to New York, where he worked as a freelance illustrator. During the Civil War he sent drawings from the front for Harper's Weekly, and his painting Prisoners from the Front (1866) showed a deep sense of the war's meaning. He was elected to the National Academy of Design in 1865. A stay in the English fishing village of Cullercoats in 1881-82 turned his attention to the sea and the hard lives of people who worked on it. From 1883 he lived at Prouts Neck, Maine, painting powerful views of crashing waves. He also became a master of watercolor.

Chester W. Nimitz
Born February 24, 1885
U.S. Navy fleet admiral who commanded the Pacific Fleet during World War II.
Chester W. Nimitz was born in Fredericksburg, Texas, and grew up near his grandfather's hotel there. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1905 and served in submarines, and he studied diesel engines in Europe before World War I. In late December 1941 he took command of the U.S. Pacific Fleet with the rank of admiral, and he also led the Pacific Ocean Areas, overseeing more than two million people, 5,000 ships, and 20,000 aircraft in the war against Japan. He was made a five-star fleet admiral in December 1944. On September 2, 1945, he signed the Japanese surrender aboard USS Missouri for the United States. He then served as Chief of Naval Operations from 1945 to 1947.
