Jim Thorpe
Born May 28, 1888
Native American athlete who won Olympic gold in the pentathlon and decathlon and starred in pro football and baseball.
Jim Thorpe was an American athlete born near Prague, Oklahoma, in what was then Indian Territory. His father was Sac and Fox and his mother was Potawatomi, and his Sac and Fox name, Wa-Tho-Huk, means "Bright Path." After attending Haskell, he became a star at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Pennsylvania, earning All-America honors in football in 1911 and 1912. At the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, he won gold medals in both the pentathlon and the decathlon. He later played Major League Baseball from 1913 to 1919 and professional football from 1915 to 1928, including with the Canton Bulldogs. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963.

Ian Fleming
Born May 28, 1908
British author who created the secret agent James Bond and also wrote the children's book Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Ian Fleming was a British writer born in London. He attended Eton and studied languages in Europe, then worked as a journalist for Reuters in Moscow and later as a banker and stockbroker. During World War II he served as a high-ranking officer in British naval intelligence, and afterward he became foreign manager of the London Sunday Times. At Goldeneye, his winter home in Jamaica, he wrote Casino Royale, published in 1953, which introduced the spy James Bond, Agent 007. Fleming went on to write a dozen Bond novels, and the series became a worldwide publishing success that inspired many popular films. He also wrote Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, a story first told to his son, which was later turned into a movie.

Gladys Knight
Born May 28, 1944
American soul singer known as the "Empress of Soul," famous for hits like "Midnight Train to Georgia" with the Pips.
Gladys Knight is an American singer from Atlanta, Georgia, often called the "Empress of Soul." As a young child she won a prize on television's Ted Mack Amateur Hour, and in 1952 she formed the Pips with her brother, sister, and cousins. The group signed with Motown in 1966 and had a major hit with "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" in 1967. After moving on from Motown, Gladys Knight & the Pips reached No. 1 with "Midnight Train to Georgia" in 1973, which won a Grammy Award. Knight began a solo career in 1989 and has won several more Grammys. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Pips in 1996 and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2022.
