Barbra Streisand is an American singer, actress, composer, director, and producer from Brooklyn, New York. She first gained attention on Broadway in I Can Get It for You Wholesale and then starred in Funny Girl. She played the same role in the movie version and won the 1969 Academy Award for Best Actress. Her other well-known films include The Way We Were and A Star Is Born, and she won a second Oscar in 1977 for writing an original song. In 1983 she directed Yentl. She has released dozens of albums and won many Grammy Awards. Her honors include the Kennedy Center Honors in 2008 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015.

Shirley MacLaine is an American actress, dancer, and author from Richmond, Virginia, and the older sister of actor Warren Beatty. Born Shirley MacLean Beaty, she got her big break in the Broadway musical The Pajama Game in the 1950s. Her first film was Alfred Hitchcock's The Trouble with Harry in 1955. She went on to star in The Apartment and Irma la Douce with Jack Lemmon, and later in The Turning Point and Steel Magnolias. After several nominations, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Terms of Endearment. She has also written many books, including Out on a Limb, and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2013.

Her 2004 album Breakaway made her a major star with hits such as "Since U Been Gone," "Behind These Hazel Eyes," and "Because of You," and it won a Grammy for best pop vocal album. Her later album Stronger won the same award. She became a coach on The Voice in 2018 and also hosts The Kelly Clarkson Show, which has earned her Daytime Emmy Awards.
