Benjamin Harrison
Born August 20, 1833
American lawyer, Civil War general, and senator who served as the 23rd president of the United States.
Benjamin Harrison was born in North Bend, Ohio, into a well-known political family: his grandfather William Henry Harrison was the ninth president, and his great-grandfather signed the Declaration of Independence. After graduating from Miami University in Ohio, he practiced law in Indianapolis. During the Civil War he served in the Union Army under William T. Sherman and rose to brigadier general. He represented Indiana in the U.S. Senate from 1881 to 1887. In 1888 he won the presidency through the Electoral College while losing the popular vote. As president from 1889 to 1893, he signed the Sherman Antitrust Act, and six states, including Montana, Washington, and Wyoming, joined the Union.

H. P. Lovecraft
Born August 20, 1890
American writer of horror and weird fiction, known for The Call of Cthulhu and At the Mountains of Madness.
Howard Phillips Lovecraft was born in Providence, Rhode Island, the city where he spent most of his life. Interested in science as a child, he never attended college and earned a modest living as a ghostwriter and reviser of other writers' work. Starting in 1923 he became a regular contributor to the pulp magazine Weird Tales. His stories often show ordinary New Englanders confronting ancient, otherworldly beings, a shared universe now called the Cthulhu Mythos. Well-known works include "The Call of Cthulhu," At the Mountains of Madness, The Shadow over Innsmouth, and The Case of Charles Dexter Ward. Little known during his lifetime, he later came to be seen as one of the 20th century's masters of horror, influencing many writers.
