American actor known for The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy, Tootsie, and Oscar-winning roles in Kramer vs. Kramer and Rain Man.
Dustin Hoffman is an American actor from Los Angeles. He left music studies at Santa Monica City College and moved to New York to act, earning an Obie Award for Off-Broadway work. His first big film role came in The Graduate (1967), where he played a recent college graduate even though he was about 30. He followed with Midnight Cowboy, Little Big Man, All the President's Men, Tootsie, and Wag the Dog. Hoffman won the Academy Award for best actor for Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) and again for Rain Man (1988). On Broadway he played Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman, and in 2012 he directed his first feature film, Quartet.

Roger Federer is a Swiss tennis player from Basel who began playing at age eight and competed as a professional from 1998 to 2022. He won 20 Grand Slam singles titles: eight at Wimbledon, six at the Australian Open, five at the U.S. Open, and one at the French Open. In 2018 he became the first man to reach 20 major singles titles. Federer held the No. 1 ranking for 237 weeks in a row, the longest such run in ATP rankings history, and won 103 tour titles. At the Olympics he took gold in doubles in 2008 and silver in singles in 2012. In 2003 he started the Roger Federer Foundation, which supports education projects in southern Africa and Switzerland.

American physicist who invented the cyclotron particle accelerator and won the 1939 Nobel Prize in Physics.
Ernest Lawrence was an American physicist born in Canton, South Dakota. He studied chemistry at the University of South Dakota, earned a master's degree at the University of Minnesota, and completed a Ph.D. in physics at Yale in 1925. In 1928 he joined the physics faculty at the University of California, Berkeley, where he soon became its youngest full professor. In 1929 he developed the cyclotron, a machine that speeds up nuclear particles to very high velocities without needing high voltages. He became director of Berkeley's Radiation Laboratory in 1936. Lawrence received the 1939 Nobel Prize in Physics for the cyclotron and for the results obtained with it, especially artificial radioactive elements.
